Leaders of the European HEMS and Air Rescue Committee (EHAC) and the European Helicopter Association (EHA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, during the recent Helitech exhibition at Duxford (UK).

Gerhard Kugler (EHAC chairman) and Lord Glenarthur (who handed over chairmanship of EHA to Dr Siegfried Sobotta recently) signed the agreement which will pursue a number of cooperative issues.

“We believe that there are specific areas of mutual concern and interest in HEMS and air ambulance matters,” both organisations told www.air-rescuetek.com. “We will review and comment upon international regulations pertaining to civil helicopter operations; exchange information such as data and statistics on technical, operational and safety matters; focus on noise reduction and long term efforts to bring about quieter helicopters and generally promote civil helicopters (e.g. public acceptance activities and programmes).”

Both organisations, which will still remain autonomous, also believe that there is ‘significant mutual advantage in establishing procedures to facilitate joint EHAC/EHA communications to influence European and ICAO rulemaking’.
