The County of Cumbria, England's second largest county, is working towards having its own dedicated air ambulance.
“There are three phases to providing, maintaining and improving a helicopter air ambulance service in Cumbria,” the GNAAS Cumbria appeal told www.air-rescuetek.com. “Initially to raise £300,000 this will enable the launch of a dedicated air ambulance in Cumbria (equivalent to 5 months flying). We will continue raising funds beyond £300,000 to maintain service and to improve the service, by upgrading to a new generation helicopter, will cost a further £2 million.”
During phase one, money will be raised by appeal to the people of Cumbria and businesses with strong Cumbrian links. During phase two, long term sustainable income will be generated by establishing regular donor and lottery membership schemes. Phase 3 will be a seperate ongoing appeal specifically for a new helicopter.
