The United States Army, Europe announced today that V Corps’ 421st Medical Evacuation Battalion Headquarters and one of its subordinate companies, the 159th Air Ambulance Company, will be relocating from Wiesbaden Army Airfield, Wiesbaden, to Katterbach Army Air Field in Katterbach. The move will begin in the summer of 2004.

The 557th Ground Ambulance Company, which is a second subordinate company of the 421st Air Evacuation Battalion, will be relocating from Wiesbaden Army Air Field, Wiesbaden, to Barton Barracks in Ansbach. The move will begin in the summer of 2004.

This is a USAREUR-directed move of forces within Germany and does not involve the closure of any installations or the reduction of force strength in Germany.

“We are undertaking this move as part of our overall effort to rationalise and transform our aviation assets,” said USAREUR. The move will result in the co-location of the 421st Medical Evacuation Battalion Headquarters with the 159th Air Ambulance Company and the 45th Air Ambulance Company in Katterbach Army Air Field, with the 557th Ground Ambulance Company in Barton Barracks in nearby Ansbach. The unit’s third air ambulance company, the 236th Air Ambulance Company, is stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.

The 421st Medical Evacuation Battalion Headquarters provides command and control for three Air Ambulance Companies and one Ground Ambulance Company. The 159th Air Ambulance Company provides medical air evacuation missions within the USAREUR theater. The 557th Ground Ambulance Company provides ground ambulance support for USAREUR
