How is emergency medical service and emergency medical aid organised in Germany and Europe? Which types of medical equipment are used? How does air rescue in Germany work?
At their first vocational training session (air rescue for senior emergency physicians of the Russian Federation), fourteen emergency physicians received answers to these and other related questions.
The training took place from 28 October to 1 November 2003, at the Brandenburg rescue school (Landesrettungsschule Brandenburg e.V.) in Bad Saarow, in the German federal state of Brandenburg. The registered non-profit air rescue organization DRF (Deutsche Rettungsflugwacht e.V./German Air Rescue) initiated the training. In Bad Saarow, German Air Rescue operates the rescue helicopter Christoph 49.
During training, agreements on future cooperation were reached between DRF and Zaschita, the All-Russian Center for Disaster Medicine. Zaschita is the central institution of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation which plans health measures in disaster management.
Since its foundation 30 years ago, DRF (German Air Rescue) has supported several states in establishing air rescue systems. The air rescue organisation has agreed contractual relationships with the Russian Federation, concerning the development of air rescue, since 2001. These relationships include education and training of health personnel.
For the first time within the framework of this agreement, Russian physicians have now been trained in air rescue. The physicians from the Russian Federation also had the opportunity to meet representatives of German pharmaceutical and medical technology companies.
In turn, German colleagues received valuable information on disaster management from the visiting team. Physicians from the Russian Federation accompanied disaster missions in Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq and Colombia.
A contract detailing cooperation between DRF and Zaschita was also signed, confirmed Prof. Dr. Edgar Steiner, who represented DRF during the training. It concerns the education and training of health personnel to develop air rescue in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
