At Shephard’s Search and Rescue 2003 conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the Defence Helicopter SAR Award was presented to the crew of Rescue Mike Uniform flying a Sikorsky S-61 based at Stornoway in Scotland. It rescued a crewman from a Spanish fishing vessel operating 292 nautical miles (nm) off the Scottish coast, and nearly 60nm beyond the normal maximum operating range of the Sikorsky S-61.
Shephard Press Ltd, publishers of Defence Helicopter magazine, is now looking for nominations for the SAR 2004 Award, to be presented at its SAR 2004 event (2-3 March 2004) in Brighton, UK. Nominations are open to civilian and military helicopter crews.
