Air Methods Corporation has expanded its community-based operations in recent weeks to include five new locations in the US within Michigan, Illinois and New York.
On 5 January 2004, the company, in coordination with Covenant Health Care in Saginaw (Michigan) commenced operations with a new Eurocopter A-Star single-engine helicopter. This represents the first aeromedical service programme provided by Air Methods based in Michigan.
Beginning on 15 December 2003, the company, in coordination with Anderson Hospital in Effingham (Illinois), started operations with a BK-117 twin-engine helicopter pursuant to a preferred provider agreement. This new base is an expansion of Air Methods’ ARCH programme based in St. Louis.
On 14 December 2003, Westchester County Medical Center in New York, which previously contracted with Air Methods using the hospital-based service model, transferred control of its aeromedical programme to Air Methods' community-based service model. The programme operates one BK-117 twin-engine helicopter located at the hospital and another BK-117 located at a separate base in Wallkill, New York.
On 30 October 2003, in coordination with St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Utica, New York, and with Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York, Air Methods commenced service with a Eurocopter A-Star single-engine helicopter based in Rome, New York.
